By Esrom Art

Is Jesus ever crying? That question appeared in my mind. When I tried to answer that question, I found in the internet the verse “Jesus Wept” (John 11:35 - King James Version). Bible study acknowledged it as the Bible shortest verse. Jesus was ever crying in the Bible when someone died.

I am not priest or clergy. What is the important thing about shortest verse in the Holy Bible? The most important for me is Jesus cry for someone. In the Bible old Greek scripture, it is written: edakrusen ho Iesous that mean Jesus shed tear. Jesus was crying for the death of Lazarus. Who is Lazarus that make Jesus wept? Lazarus should be a person who touches the heart of Jesus so deeply. Jesus was resurrecting him from stone tomb. What a wonderful bless from God that human ever got in Christianity history. Now the promise of resurrection is deserve to all of us. We should have “Lazarus” qualities in our life. In modern life, is Jesus ever wept for us?

Lazarus Quality

What is the reason why Jesus wept for Lazarus? For Jesus, Lazarus should be a close friend in His heart. Lazarus has faith quality that impressed Jesus. I do not have theological knowledge as epistemological explanation. This is based on my interpretation. I have assumption that Lazarus has touched the heart of Jesus so deeply. Jesus felt sorrow because His closed friend was death. Jesus made Lazarus alive and faith evidence to human kind that God so loves human as a friend. God cried for us.

A Friend Wept

I remember old song lyric, “I cried a tears, you wiped it dry” from Anne Murray. The song title “You needed me”. We need someone to wipe our tears. We need a great friend like the friendship of Lazarus. Jesus not only cried for him but also resurrects his life. I need a friend wept for me. I believe Jesus wept for you. Everybody needs a friend wept.

Sometimes life is not easy. When we bear heavy burden, we hide our cry inside. We do not want somebody know about it. Crying is ashamed for some people, but not for Jesus. I am a man and Jesus thought me that shed a tears is expression of deep love. I am not shame to cry now. Even God crying, isn’t He? Crying with God will release our ill feeling.

What a Friend we have in Jesus

Lazarus is truth fact about what a friend we have in Jesus. Maybe we feel that our life is dead, but Jesus able to resurrection our faith. Maybe you need to recover your life, job, married, relationship, and all heavy burdens you have. Bring it to Jesus and He will make a resurrection to renew your life and soul.

Good luck, good health, and God bless us.

In my book, "It is time we truly know why Jesus wept at the grave of Lazarus" a must read for humanity, it was shown that we can relate that simple incident to many situation. Jesus did not weep when a widow lost her only son instead Jesus said to her, "weep not" so why did Jesus weep because of Lazarus? What is special about Lazarus? why is "Jesus wept" the shortest verse of the bible? It a mystery which I tried to unravel in the book.

It's the shortest verse in the English Bible, anyway.

Just wrote a hub Psych ward nite of hell.

Your hub touched me deeply

I have been very hurt

I needed a friend

and I got some relief

You are wonderful.

God bless you.

Life is a series of hills and valleys.

Jesus is our best friend. I'm touched that he wept for Lazarus, it's good to have feelings and show them and you too. It's the heart that matters, more so than being wealthy or the smartest man, sometimes the finest grains of wisdom are in the child.

The reason why Jesus wept can be discerned from the context and the timing.

By the end of his ministry, precious few of his disciples were prepared to accept the kind of death he was going to suffer as a means for his perpetual self-revelation to posterity. (John 11)
